Miami coach Jim Larranaga donates $10,000 to Angel Rodriguez’s Puerto Rico hurricane relief fund

Miami coach Jim Larranaga has donated $10,000 to the Puerto Rico hurricane relief fund set up by former player Angel Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, a native of the U.S. island territory, started a GoFundMe page to collect money for those battered by the effects of a series of storms to pass through the area. Hurricane Maria wiped out power to most Puerto Ricans, left a number of them without sufficient drinking water and created what was called a “humanitarian crisis”. So far, with Larranaga’s donation included, Rodriguez has raised over $21,000.

Rodriguez, who moved to Miami as a teenager, began his college career at Kansas State before transferring to the Hurricanes. He finished his career as a third-team All-ACC selection in 2016 after averaging 12.6 points and 4.5 assists per game. After a stint on the Spurs’ Summer League roster, he 24-year-old spent a season overseas with Cholet Basket in France before signing with Israel’s Maccabi Haifi in August of this year.
