Miami incoming freshman Mark Pope is the No. 11 receiver and No. 67 overall player in the class of 2018, according to 247 Sports. But Hurricanes director of player personnel Matt Doherty thinks he has a much higher ceiling than the rankings indicate.
“I think Mark Pope is the best wide receiver in the country,” Doherty said on Miami’s official signing day show. “I’ve said that time and again. I don’t care what anyone else thinks. He went out to San Antonio for the Army game and he made all the other receivers there look second rate.”
Pope didn’t post huge numbers in his senior season, but that’s largely because of the offensive he played in. Pope caught just 11 passes for 247 yards.
We’ll see if he can live up to these lofty expectations. The Hurricanes could use a game-changer on the outside.
