No. 2 Michigan State was already Big Ten champs, but Sunday’s tight 68-63 win over Wisconsin solidified that.
The victory gave the Spartans the outright conference title. They’ve now won at least a share of the title 14 times.
Cassius Winston led the way for the team with 20 points in the victory, while Nick Ward had 14 despite foul trouble.
Brad Davidson had 30 points in an excellent effort to lead the Badgers.
Though the Spartans led for the majority of the game, they had to hold off the Badgers, especially in the second half as Davidson’s hot shooting kept the home team nipping at their heels.
Davidson did all of this while playing with a shoulder injury as well.
The Badgers did take the lead with just under 10 minutes to go and again a few minutes later to keep the champs on their toes.
But after trading the lead for a bit, the Badger scoring went silent, failing to score for over five minutes in the second half as Winston took over and pulled the Spartans ahead for good.
The Spartans now head into the Big Ten tournament with the No. 1 seed, a 28-3 record and a 16-2 conference record.
They had already clinched a share of the title on Tuesday with a win over Illinois and were holding off Ohio State for the outright title and the No. 1 seed.
