Michigan State recruiting: Top performances from Spartans commits this weekend

The high school football season is in full swing, and that means Michigan State commits are in action. Check Land of 10 every Sunday as we spotlight the top performances of future Spartans.

Michigan State secured a big win over Iowa on Saturday. We understand if that took most of your attention.

But several of the Spartans’ football commits showed out over the weekend as well. We collected statistics and videos of the top performances so you can think about the future just as you’re excited about the present.

Cornerback Davion Williams

High school: Belleville (Mich.)
Class: 2018
The skinny: What didn’t Davion Williams do on Friday? In the video below from Full Court Media, you’ll see him catch a 43-yard Hail Mary touchdown at the end of the first half (1:46), return a fumble 82 yards for a score (3:03) and pick off a pass (3:30) in a monstrous performance. Belleville beat Dearborn Fordson 35-7.

Running back Elijah Collins

High school: University of Detroit Jesuit
Class: 2018
The skinny: Elijah Collins committed to Michigan State at a pep rally for Friday’s game against St. Joseph (Mich.), then proceeded to run for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns, according to the Detroit Free Press. His Cubs won 19-7 on what must have been one of the best days he’s had in recent memory.

Wide receiver  Javez Alexander

High school: Sandusky (Ohio)
Class: 2018
The skinny: Javez Alexander likely will make a switch to wide receiver at Michigan State, so he’s making the most of his final season at quarterback. In yet another blowout win, he completed 12 of 17 passes for 202 yards and 3 touchdowns, and he added 64 rushing yards and a score on 5 carries, per the Sandusky Register.

Defensive back Xavier Henderson

High school: Pickerington (Ohio) Central
Class: 2018
The skinny: Pickerington Central faced what looked like a tough test against Gahanna (Ohio) Lincoln, but Xavier Henderson helped to quickly turn it into a laugher. He returned the opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown, and the Tigers coasted to a 45-8 win.

Tight end Trenton Gillison

High school: Pickerington (Ohio) Central
Class: 2018
The skinny: What Xavier Henderson started, Trenton Gillison finished. In what ThisWeek Community News described as the “knockout blow,” Gillison chased down Lincoln quarterback Mike Lowery for a 24-yard sack. Unfortunately, Lowery had to leave the game with an arm injury and didn’t return.
