Michigan and Wisconsin meet for the only time in the regular season, matching up at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis. The Wolverines have won two of their past three games, but squandered a 10-point lead on Tuesday in a loss at Northwestern.
The Wolverines shot a dismal 5 for 20 in the second half of the loss at Northwestern, including 1 for 10 from 3-point range. Michigan has shot a combined 16 percent (4 for 25) from 3-point range in the second half of its past three games. The Wolverines were unable to hold on to a 10-point lead against the Wildcats, despite Moritz Wagner’s team-high 20 points.
Michigan aims for its 20th victory, which would give coach John Beilein his eighth 20-win season at Michigan.
Michigan plays three of its final five games on the road and is 3-5 in road games this season. After Wisconsin, the Wolverines play consecutive road games at Penn State (Feb. 21) and Maryland (Feb. 24) following home games against Iowa (Feb. 14) and No. 14 Ohio State (Feb. 18). The Wolverines are fifth in the Big Ten, one game behind Nebraska. Michigan’s loss in Lincoln in January gives the tiebreaker edge to the Cornhuskers as the teams play for the No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. The top four seeds receive a double-bye.
The Wolverines enter the game at Wisconsin with the Big Ten’s top defense, allowing an average of 63.4 points per game. They face a Badgers squad that is 13th in the Big Ten in team scoring (67.4 points) and led by Ethan Happ, who is the conference’s third-leading scorer (17.8 points).
While the Wolverines struggled to make 3-pointers in the second half of the loss at Northwestern, they are sixth in the conference (236 for 653, 36 percent) in the statistical category. The Wolverines average 9.1 3-pointers per game. Duncan Robinson leads the team with 46, ahead of Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman (42) and Wagner (38).
