Mississippi State podcast: With brutal September schedule in the past, better days are ahead for MSU football

That was not fun. For the second consecutive Saturday night, Mississippi State got drilled by a top 15 team, as Auburn did the honors with a 49-10 win over MSU. But all is not lost. Despite two straight reality checks from superior opponents, MSU can and will still carve out a good season, as the path to an 8-4 or 9-3 season remains clear.

First, the disappointments. MSU’s inability to move the ball effectively on the ground put the gameplan in the hands of MSU’s passing game, and that was a disaster. On the other side of the ball, Auburn had its way with MSU’s defense, recording seven plays of more than 30 yards. In a season that saw MSU’s defense get off to a great start,, the past two weeks have put any improvement last year into perspective.

But with a remaining schedule that includes five home games and six games against subpar defenses, MSU can still finish as a top five team in the conference.
