The Nebraska Cornhuskers remained at No. 12 in the latest Land of 10 Power Poll, which was released Sunday.
The Cornhuskers improved to 2-0 in Big Ten conference play after defeating Illinois, 28-6, on the road. With two conference games under the Huskers’ belts, plenty has been learned but there are still greater tests ahead. Nebraska will face Wisconsin at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday on the Big Ten Network.
The power poll consists of 13 Land of 10 voters — each of whom covers at least one Big Ten team.

How I voted
Once again, everything between No. 1 and No. 4 feels pretty solid to me. Everything between No. 5 and No. 12? That’s a little more unclear. There could be a case made for most of those teams in the middle to be moved ahead or backward. Even Nebraska could have been bumped higher in some scenarios.
And it does feel like Nebraska should be higher after the 28-6 win over Illinois. However, the Huskers’ last two wins have been over the only two teams ranked lower in the Big Ten Power Poll. That doesn’t help the case for the Huskers much.
A win over Wisconsin though? That’s a game-changer. If the Huskers are able to defeat the Badgers, you can expect a significant jump in the standings by next Sunday. Until then, it’s a waiting game.
As for the rest of the Big Ten, a couple of other questions might be answered outside of Nebraska and Wisconsin in Week 6. Minnesota and Purdue could clear some things up in the middle of the pack. It’ll be interested to see what kind of fight Northwestern can give Penn State. Even Michigan State and Michigan could be worth watching. While the Wolverines won the 2016 matchup, the Spartans took the three before that.
However, I’m personally ready for Week 9. That’s when Penn State and Ohio State play, and that will clear up a lot between the two at the top. I’m eager to see how that plays out, even though we have a few weeks to go.
Here is my full ballot for the poll this week:
- Penn State
- Ohio State
- Michigan State
