Phones aren’t just phones nowadays. That’s why there are policies against using them on some sidelines, and a media member figured that out last Saturday.
During Alabama’s 66-3 win over Ole Miss, strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran locked onto the person — maybe a photographer since he had a camera around his neck — and yanked it before putting it in his back pocket.
On Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference, Alabama coach Nick Saban provided a pretty straightforward explanation as to why Cochran confiscated the phone.
“I think if you are on the sideline, you need to be focused on the game. No one is allowed to have a cell phone on the sideline. We have a rule against cell phones on the sideline. It’s a focus issue. I don’t know what more to say about it.”
Here’s the now-infamous gif of that if you haven’t seen it.
