Roy Williams back in Richmond, Va. for Armando Bacot
There’s a lot of room to add to the Class of 2019 for Roy Williams and his staff, and Williams seems determined to have 5-star power forward/center Armando Bacot fill one of those spots.
Williams has had a lot of interaction with Bacot since just before Christmas, and he added one more trip Tuesday to see the nation’s No. 7 center and No. 20 overall player, along with assistant Hubert Davis, according to the Twitter account of Bacot’s AAU team, Team Loaded.

Since Dec. 19, Williams has visited Bacot four times. Each of the last three months, he’s visited right at the end of the month like clockwork, so it’s not surprising to see Williams get a trip in before the end of March.
Bacot has also been to Chapel Hill twice over that span, visiting for the N.C. State game in January and again for the Duke game, which featured the two teams believed to be at the top of Bacot’s list.
For most of the recruiting process, Duke has been the favorite with 100 percent of the 247Sports crystal balls. But Thursday, 247Sports’ Andrew Slater put in the first prediction for the Tar Heels and indicated that North Carolina is “one to watch” after prioritizing Bacot.
North Carolina has been the team with the biggest presence in Bacot’s recruitment. Other than a visit to Virginia Tech and a subsequent visit from Hokies coach Buzz Williams in late February, it’s been all Tar Heels.
North Carolina football offers middle school player
During the offseason, college coaches spend a lot of time recruiting, both visiting with players they’ve identified as targets and looking for new ones.
During that time, a lot of offers get handed out, usually to the rising senior class, but occasionally they go to underclassmen. With NCAA restrictions on the kind of contact coaches can have with underclassmen, those offers rarely matter until later in the process. But occasionally, one of those far-in-advance offers forces you to do a double-take.
North Carolina did just that on Monday. According to the Twitter account of Nasir Gaines of the Brick City Lions, a youth football program in New Jersey, North Carolina has offered Class of 2022 defensive lineman Keith Miles Jr.

Miles Jr. won’t even step foot in a high school classroom until August. But the eighth grader isn’t an ordinary middle school student, standing 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds according to his Youth1 profile.
With that kind of size, it’s only a matter of time before the college football blue bloods get involved, but sometimes an early offer can give a team a leg up. Rutgers also chose to get in on the action, extending Miles an offer on Thursday according to his Twitter account.
