Notre Dame QB Brandon Wimbush considered ‘day-to-day’ with foot soreness

At his media conference Tuesday, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly revealed that starting quarterback Brandon Wimbush injured his foot in Week 5 against Miami (Ohio). Kelly said Wimbush is considered “day to day.”

According to Kelly, Wimbush has been in a walking boot for the past few days, and X-rays and MRIs revealed no structural damage.

“I think we’ll take it day to day,” said Kelly regarding Wimbush. “He experienced some foot soreness after the game. We put him in a walking boot, which is fairly typical in terms of procedure.”

Kelly said that Wimbush likely won’t practice on Tuesday, but he would need to practice in some capacity Wednesday in order to play against North Carolina in Week 6.

If Wimbush is unable to play, freshman Ian Book would likely start in his place.

“He wants to play,” Kelly said of Wimbush. “He’s a competitor.”
