The Notre Dame Fighting Irish kept rolling Saturday, beating the Miami (OH) Red Hawks, 52-17. Behind the victory, the Fighting Irish jumped up one spot to No. 21 in the AP Top 25. The poll was released on Sunday.
The Fighting Irish moved back into the AP Top 25 at No. 22 last week after routing Michigan State on the road. Notre Dame was also ranked ahead of its Week 2 matchup with Georgia, but the Irish fell at home to the Bulldogs by a point and dropped from the polls.
Georgia is the only ranked opponent Notre Dame has faced, but against their other competition, the Fighting Irish have absolutely dominated. They beat Temple, Boston College, Michigan State and Miami (OH) by an average of 29.25 points.
On Saturday, just about everything was clicking for the Fighting Irish in their 35-point victory versus the Red Hawks. In the first quarter alone, Notre Dame notched 4 touchdowns – 3 on the ground and 1 through the air.
Two of those rushing touchdowns were long runs from Josh Adams, who moved into 10th place on the Fighting Irish rushing list Saturday. He gained 159 rushing yards on just 8 carries and scored on 73 and 59-yard runs.
Brandon Wimbush was in on the scoring act too, throwing 3 touchdowns and running for another in the victory.
Next week, Notre Dame will hit the road against to face the struggling North Carolina Tar Heels, who are 1-4 after a blowout loss against Georgia Tech on Saturday. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. ET.
