Ohio State No. 1 in 2018 projected analytic rankings

After a historic National Signing Day for Ohio State, Buckeyes fans have yet another reason for optimism.

Ohio State was ranked No. 1 in the projected S&P+ rankings for the 2018 season. An analytic ranking system, the S&P+ forecasts the preseason rankings based on returning production, a team’s recent history and recruiting.

Ohio State edged defending national champion Alabama for the No. 1 spot. The full rankings, which feature all 130 FBS teams, can be found here.

Ohio State is far from the only Big Ten East team near the top of the rankings. The Big Ten East has four teams in the top 11 (No. 1 Ohio State, No. 8 Penn State, No. 10 Michigan and No. 11 Michigan State), while Wisconsin checks in at No. 12.

Here’s where each Big Ten team measures in the projected preseason S&P+ rankings:

  • No. 1 Ohio State
  • No. 8 Penn State
  • No. 10 Michigan
  • No. 11 Michigan State
  • No. 12 Wisconsin
  • No. 36 Iowa
  • No. 38 Northwestern
  • No. 54 Purdue
  • No. 58 Indiana
  • No. 60 Nebraska
  • No. 67 Minnesota
  • No. 80 Maryland
  • No. 84 Rutgers
  • No. 99 Illinois
