Ohio State football is the No. 1 topic in Wake Up Sloopy every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across Buckeyes sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Ohio State football, recruiting, basketball and more.
Emory Jones visits Crimson Tide
Ohio State quarterback commit Emory Jones went through with his plans to take an unofficial visit to Alabama. So what happens now?
That’s a good question. He told Land of 10 that all is well right now between him and the Buckeyes. However, the fact this was an unofficial indicates that an official (and free) visit will also happen. If that does occur, pretty much anything is on the table going forward.
Late start at Nebraska
Ohio State’s present from the TV networks for being one of the biggest draws in college football? A slew of night games on the road. On the heels of the Buckeyes facing Rutgers at night, it was announced they will play Nebraska at 7:30 p.m. ET on Oct. 14.
It’s also expected the Buckeyes game at Iowa on Nov. 4 will be at night, which would make four road night games for Ohio State in 2017.
Erick Smith out again
Senior safety Erick Smith didn’t make the trip to Rutgers because of an unspecified issue. Urban Meyer said in his postgame press conference that Smith “wasn’t ready to make the trip.”
Smith will also be withheld for the upcoming game against Maryland, Meyer announced Monday. “He’s got to handle his business,” Meyer said. “He won’t play this week. He’s got to take care of his business.”
