Recruiting well in Oklahoma is always a priority for coach Mike Gundy. It’s even more important when a prospect like Oklahoma City Putnam City defensive end Collin Clay comes along.
The 3-star 2019 prospect seems to like the Oklahoma State Cowboys, who made his top-10 list released last weekend.
— Collin Clay 1️⃣ (@thecollinclay_) March 17, 2018
Clay boasts 16 offers with a few big-name programs looking to add his services. He’s currently ranked the No. 29 player at his position and No. 4 prospect from Oklahoma, according to 247Sports composite.
TCU is the only other Big 12 school to make Clay’s list. Although, the 6-foot-5 defensive end still hasn’t received an offer from Oklahoma.
Here’s a look at where things stand for the 2019 class:
Where Oklahoma State’s class ranks
Oklahoma State ranks No. 31 nationally and No. 6 in the Big 12, according to the 247Sports composite team rankings, as of Friday.
- Oklahoma State didn’t send any new offers this week.
- Oklahoma State has a solid running back — Justice Hill — in place, but who will the Cowboys target in 2019? Pistols Firing Blog looks at a few prospects, including one from Oklahoma City.
- Dallas (Texas) Woodrow Wilson defensive end Z’Core Brooks had a few nice things to say about Oklahoma State, via 247Sports.com.
Offers by the numbers
- Reported offers: 77
- 5-star offers: 3
- 4-star offers: 39
- In-state recruits offered: 5
- Texas recruits offered: 46
- Louisiana recruits offered: 3
- Florida recruits offered: 4
- TE Grayson Boomer, 3 stars, Collinsville (Okla.)
- CB Demarco Jones, 3 stars, Booker T. Washington (Tulsa, Okla.)
- P Tom Hutton, 2 stars, ProKick Australia (Australia)
5 top uncommitted targets
5-star S Daxton Hill, Tulsa (Okla.) Booker T. Washington
Daxton Hill, the younger brother of Oklahoma State running back Justice Hill, is one of the best players in the 2019 class. The Cowboys will have a tough time landing the elite safety, who’s ranked the No. 27 overall prospect by 247Sports, but it should help Oklahoma State to have Justice Hill on its roster (as well as the commitment of Daxton Hill’s teammate, Demarco Jones). Oklahoma and Ohio State are also in the mix for Daxton Hill.
4-star QB Grant Gunnell, Houston St. Pius X
Grant Gunnell, a one-time Texas A&M commit, is the No. 53 overall prospect in the 2019 class. With 39 offers, Gunnell has every major program after his services. But Oklahoma State is the projected leader for the Houston quarterback, according to 247Sports’ Crystal Ball predictions. He’s listed as a pro-style quarterback, and he has the frame (6-6, 212 pounds) to develop into a special player.
4-star WR Garrett Wilson, Austin (Texas) Lake Travis
It’s going to take a lot to attract Garrett Wilson from the blue bloods, but Oklahoma State’s success with developing receivers could be a huge plus for the Cowboys and they made Wilson’s top-8 list. Wilson, measured at 6-foot, 185 pounds, posted 1,1773 yards receiving on 98 receptions and 26 touchdowns in 2017, more than doubling his output as a sophomore. He’ll be a problem for any school that faces him in college.
4-star DE Marcus Hicks, Wichita (Kan.) Northwest
Marcus Hicks is one of the best prospects in Kansas — if not the best. He has a huge frame (6-5, 236 pounds), and would provide the Cowboys a boost along their defensive line. The athletic lineman listed Oklahoma State among his top-12 choices, which also includes Oklahoma, Kansas State and Texas from the Big 12.
3-star DT Jayden Jernigan, Allen (Texas)
Jayden Jernigan, listed as the No. 32 defensive tackle in the 2019 class by 247Sports.com, has boasted an Oklahoma State offer for nearly a year. He seems to be trending in the right direction with the Cowboys as he is expected to make another visit to Stillwater in the near future. Defensive line depth will likely be a priority for coach Mike Gundy this cycle. Jernigan is an underrated prospect with 16 offers, which includes Colorado, Oregon, Texas Tech and Washington.
Here’s a breakdown of the number of commits by position and how many are projected to be signed:
- QB: 0/1

- WR: 0/2
- OL: 0/5
- DL: 0/5
- LB: 0/3

Here’s a breakdown of Oklahoma State commits by state/country:
