Paul Finebaum made his opinion known on the Alabama-Clemson debate.
Speaking on ESPN’s First Take on Tuesday, the noted college football analyst broke down which team is No. 1 in his mind this early in the season. The Crimson Tide and Tigers have impressed through five games. Alabama ranks No. 1 in the most recent Coaches and Associated Press polls, but some argue Clemson is the stronger team.
“Clemson has a better body of work, but I don’t think they’ve beaten a great team. And I think Alabama has done that and therefore I’d rank them No. 1,” Finebaum said on the show via 247Sports’ Brad Crawford. “But I don’t think there’s a lot of difference between Alabama and Clemson.”
To be frank, none of these opinions matter now. In time, if Alabama and Clemson keep winning, both programs will meet on the field for the third consecutive year. Then the debate can be settled where it counts — on the field.
Still, where would we be without a little bluster this early in the fall? Here’s hoping Alabama and Clemson keep winning. Then we can be entertained by watching college football’s premier programs go at it once more.
