This award is part of the Lott IMPACT Trophy awarded the end of the season to the nation’s top defender. The Trophy
is meant to “equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player,” per
the award’s official
Cabinda, as well as safety Marcus Allen, were named to the preseason
watchlist for the award. Allen previously won
the weekly award in Week 2. If either were to win, they would be the second Nittany Lion in three years to take home the
award after Carl Nassib won it in the 2015 season.
With the weekly award, Penn State will receive another $1,000 donation to its general scholarship fund.
