Penn State LB Jason Cabinda wins Lott IMPACT Player of the Week award

Jason Cabinda-Penn State

Jason Cabinda’s trophy case got a little bigger Tuesday, as the Penn State linebacker has won the Lott IMPACT Player of the Week award for his performance against Indiana in Week 5.

Cabinda was all over the field Saturday against the Hoosiers, registering 14 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery in a 45-14 blowout.

This award is part of the Lott IMPACT Trophy awarded the end of the season to the nation’s top defender. The Trophy is meant to “equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player,” per the award’s official site.

Cabinda, as well as safety Marcus Allen, were named to the preseason watchlist for the award. Allen previously won the weekly award in Week 2. If either were to win, they would be the second Nittany Lion in three years to take home the award after Carl Nassib won it in the 2015 season.

With the weekly award, Penn State will receive another $1,000 donation to its general scholarship fund.
