Barthel, a former Rutgers fullback, joined the Nittany Lions in March 2017 after holding a similar job at Temple. Here’s what he posted on Twitter, nearly a year to the day, after taking the Penn State job:

With Barthel leading the charge, the Nittany Lions continued to be a juggernaut on the recruiting trail. Penn State’s class of 2018 is ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten and No. 5 in the nation by 247Sports. The class is headline by 5-star defensive end recruit Micah Parsons, a Harrisburg, Pa. native.
The new job marks Barthel’s first opportunity to be a position-specific coach. He was the director of recruiting at Rutgers from March 2015 to January 2016 before signing on with Temple.
He’ll be tasked with turning around what was a moribund rushing offense in 2017. Albany averaged 88.6 rushing yards per game, the lowest in the Colonial Athletic Association.
