No. 1 player in class of 2018, R.J. Barrett, includes Kentucky in final 3

John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats are used to being in contention for some of the best college basketball recruits in the country. But even they are not used to recruiting guys like R.J. Barrett, the no. 1 player in the class of 2018.

That’s because Barrett is seen as a transformational prospect — someone who could potentially be the first pick in the NBA draft someday. On Saturday, the Wildcats got one step closer to earning Barrett’s commitment, as he included Kentucky in his final 3 schools:

Of course, getting Barrett will still be no easy task for Calipari. If anyone recruits on Kentucky’s level, it’s Duke, and Oregon just made the Final Four. Still, whenever the Wildcats are involved, you have to figure they have a pretty good shot, regardless of who they’re competing against.

According to 247Sports, Barrett is the best player in the class of 2018. The 6-foot-6 forward is originally from Canada, but currently plays for prep powerhouse Monteverde Academy in Florida.
