West Virginia landed a commitment from JUCO safety prospect Charlie Benton on Sunday, according to 247Sports’ Chris Anderson.
Benton, who played at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan., chose the Mountaineers over Iowa State and Bowling Green among several other schools. West Virginia was one of five schools that Benton received an offer from.
Benton said that he “had dreamed of playing” at West Virginia and favored the team’s defensive scheme, according to Anderson.
Benton, a native of Opelika, Ala., will enroll at West Virginia in January 2018, according to Anderson. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound safety will have two seasons of eligibility upon arriving in Morgantown.
