Purdue’s Jeff Brohm among top bets to be next Tennessee head coach

Jeff Brohm has only been Purdue’s football coach for four games now and Tennessee hasn’t fired coach Butch Davis, but that hasn’t stopped the former from being listed as one of the top bets to take the latter’s job should it come open.

Brohm is listed with the second highest odds to take the job with the Volunteers according to Bet Online. Former Oregon and Philadelphia Eagles coach and current ESPN analyst Chip Kelly is listed as the favorite. The coach is currently listed at +450, so if someone bet 100 dollars on the Boilermakers coach and he moved to Knoxville, they’d win $450.

Here are the favorites from Bet Online:

  • Chip Kelly +325
  • Jeff Brohm +450
  • Bobby Petrino +450
  • Mike Norvell +750
  • PJ Fleck +800
  • Bob Stoops +900
  • Tee Martin +900
  • Les Miles +1000
  • Jim Bob Cooter +1800
  • Dan Mullen +1800
  • Jon Gruden +2000
  • Brian Kelly +2500
  • Peyton Manning +10000
  • Lane Kiffin +10000

After coming to West Lafayette from Western Kentucky, Brohm has been one of the darlings of the college football world this season and though the Boilermakers are just 2-2, they’ve drawn rave reviews for how hard they play and their competitiveness against tougher teams.

After Michigan beat the Boilermakers 28-10 two weeks ago in a game that was closer for much of the day, Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh lauded Brohm and his staff as an early favorite for coach of the year.

He’s also been called one of college football’s most underrated coaches by CBS Sports.

Jones is certainly on the hot seat with the Volunteers with his team at 3-2 and a loss to Troy last weekend and it remains to be seen if he’ll be allowed to finish out the season.

Of course, it also remains to be seen if Brohm would even be interested in the job or if the Vols would be interested in him and if the coach would make the jump to the SEC after just one year at Purdue.

The Boilermakers next host Minnesota at 3:30 on Saturday.
