Question of the Day: Making sense of what’s happened to Alabama basketball

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — We’re pushing through the early part of the offseason after Alabama’s championship run, and we’re here to answer any questions you may have.

The players are locked in on the spring semester while the coaching staff is looking ahead to the 2019 recruiting cycle.

Here’s our question of the day —  go here for other Alabama football and recruiting questions and answers.

For this question, we’re taking a break from football to focus on Alabama basketball.

What has happened to Alabama basketball the last 3 games?

After defeating No. 15 Tennessee, Alabama basketball has dropped its last three games.

Two of the losses were predictable. Alabama lost at Kentucky and was run off the floor at Auburn. But the loss Saturday to Arkansas didn’t make sense because of how well Alabama has played at home this season.

Alabama is 13-4 at home, but only 2-7 on the road (3-1 neutral site).

Alabama has two regular-season games remaining: vs. Florida on Tuesday night and at Texas A&M on Saturday.

The Florida game feels like a must win for the Crimson Tide considering how they’ve played on the road.

CBS Sports bracketologist Jerry Palm currently has Alabama as an 11 seed playing 6th-seeded Seton Hall in Dallas.

ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi has Alabama as a No. 9 seed playing No. 8 Seton Hall in Charlotte.

Alabama fans must hope John Petty finds his shooting stroke, Collin Sexton elevates his play and makes the team better, Donta Hall plays big inside on both ends, Braxton Key can continue to find his offensive game, Dazon Ingram plays with a good pace and attacks the basket, and the role players off the bench play above their heads.

The good news is that Alabama has the athletes to compete with and defend any team in the country. The bad news is that Alabama is offensively challenged and sometimes lacks the effort it takes to bring in the 50-50 balls, which leads to blowout losses such as the one at Auburn.
