LSU is going to have to do some soul searching this week after losing to Troy 24-21 on Saturday.
The Tigers were seemingly out-played in almost every facet of the game allowing 206 yards rushing while only putting up 266 yards through the air. They also went 0-for-9 on third down and turned the ball over four times.
The loss shook Baton Rouge and has the college football world wondering if Ed Orgeron is truly the right man to lead the Tigers going forward. It also made some other college football coaches shake their heads.
It also made some other college football coaches shake their heads. Yahoo! Sports’ Pete Thamel texted or talked with a few anonymous coaches after the game and they had some rough reviews for the Tigers.
Here is what a few of them had to say:
“They don’t play hard,” a veteran college coach texted after watching the Troy debacle on Saturday night. “Troy was more physical!”
“It wasn’t what you expect,” said one assistant coach. “You expect guys ready to kick your ass. There wasn’t any fire. Genetically they weren’t as good. On film, they weren’t as good. But these guys, I don’t know. These guys, I don’t even know what to say. I can’t believe they play the way they do. They’re soft. Soft. It doesn’t make sense.”
“They’re just standing there,” said another assistant coach who studied LSU’s defense. “They weren’t running to the ball. It baffles me. I don’t know Dave Aranda, but I know they’re paying him a s—-load of money.”
“Key literally gives up chasing him on his way to the end zone, and if you’re the fourth-overall pick, you catch him from behind,” the analyst said. “They all looked out of shape. Watching game film, you can see their bellies breathing hard while they’re playing. They didn’t strain. They didn’t play hard.”
It’s a brutal attack on LSU and their season to date, the way they’re playing and the way Orgeron is going about his job. Whether any of it is true remains a personal judgement, but perhaps the Tigers need some tough love to save what’s left of their season.
