The news keeps rolling in from Friday’s fresh revelations of a financial underworld in college basketball, and the latest information might be the biggest.
According to a report from ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, who cited multiple sources familiar with the FBI’s evidence in the bribery case, Arizona coach Sean Miller discussed a $100,000 payment to then-recruit DeAndre Ayton, who ended up signing with Arizona and is currently starring for the Wildcats.
Per the report, Miller directed ASM Sports runner Christian Dawkins to go through assistant coach Emanuel “Book” Richardson on all money-related matters. Richardson was fired by the university after he was indicted on federal bribery charges.
Ayton is a projected top-five pick in the upcoming NBA draft, if he chooses to forego his remaining collegiate eligibility.
