NCAA programs across the country are being investigated by the FBI for illegal recruiting practices, and now Will Wade and LSU’s men’s basketball team are under fire from the NCAA.
According to a report from Yahoo! Sports’ Pete Thamel, LSU coach Will Wade is being looked at under a microscope by NCAA enforcement officials.
The report says Wade’s program has been under scrutiny for the last six months. The “information gathering” on Wade’s practices dates back to his time at Virginia Commonwealth University. This is his first season at LSU.
“After talking to my staff we have had no contact from the NCAA regarding any irregularities,” LSU athletic director Joe Alleva told Yahoo Sports.
Despite LSU being known primarily as a football school, Wade has had tremendous success on the recruiting trail in his first season in Baton Rouge. His 2018 class currently ranks No. 3 in the country behind only Duke and Oregon, according to Rivals.
According to the report, the NCAA is simply in a fact-finding mode and nothing is imminent regarding potential violations.
The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie shed more light on the potential issue:
Can’t exactly say it’s a surprise that the NCAA would take a look at Wade getting four top-60 kids in 2018 when LSU got four top-60 kids combined from 2014-2017, and didn’t even do a poor job recruiting. https://t.co/6QsYuMggg3

LSU is 16-12 this season and doesn’t appear to be in play for an at-large bid in next month’s NCAA Tournament. But the Tigers could be in a great position for 2019 and beyond, provided the NCAA doesn’t find more troubling information.
