Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey told reporters on Monday that forward Austin Torres has a stress fracture and is expected to miss four to six weeks.
#NotreDame F Austin Torres has a stress fracture. Out a month to 6 weeks- Per Mike Brey
— Irish Sports Daily (@ISDUpdate) October 2, 2017
Torres, a 6-foot-7, 235-pound fifth-year forward, averaged 1.3 points and 1.5 rebounds in 7.3 minutes per game last season, appearing in 36 games and making one start.
Torres has played in 90 games over three seasons and embraced his role as a guy who can come off the bench and make an impact with limited opportunities.
Notre Dame will play its first exhibition game, against Bethel (Ind.), on Nov. 3. The season opener for the Fighting Irish is at DePaul on Nov. 11, so Torres could potentially return around that time, though it’s possible he could need additional time to return to full strength depending on the injury.
