Few assistants had a better a 2018 recruiting haul than Oklahoma defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux.
The Sooners assistant helped land 4-star defensive tackle Michael Thompson on National Signing Day. He also helped Oklahoma land instate products Jordan Kelley (3-star), Jalen Redmond (4-star) and Ron Tatum (4-star), as well as Ronnie Perkins (4-star).
Rivals.com recognized his efforts this past recruiting cycle with a nod on its top 25 recruiters of 2018 list, released on Friday.
The Big 12 recruiting wars are heating up, with Tom Herman making a statement that Texas is back with its 2018 class and young coaches like Matt Rhule (Baylor) and Matt Campbell (Iowa State) are stepping up their schools’ recruiting profiles. The Oklahoma Sooners are not going quietly into the night, though. They came back with a second straight top 10 class and defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux’s haul at his position was key.
Oklahoma finished finished No. 8 in Rivals.com’s team recruiting rankings, and coach Lincoln Riley’s group appears to be in good shape to try to continue its dominance of the Big 12 next season.
It won’t be easy with the Big 12 recruiting at a high level in 2018, but the Sooners got much needed reinforcements along their defensive line thanks to Thibodeaux.
