Saquon Barkley is the clear-cut Heisman favorite five weeks into the 2017 season. But, he’s left the duty of calling his shots to his dad.
Barkley’s father, while talking to Saquon two days before the game, told his son he would return a kickoff for a touchdown against Indiana. Saquon did so on the opening kickoff.
“Two days ago, me, my mom and my dad were on FaceTime,” Barkley said. “My dad was just looking at me and he was like ‘You know what, you’re going to take a kick return for a touchdown in this game.’ I said ‘Well, we’ve been working on it.’
Barkley finished the game with only 56 yards on 20 attempts, however he did have kickoff return touchdown as well as a pasing touchdown in the 45-14 rout of the Hoosiers.. But, what made the game sweeter for Barkley was his dad was in attendance during the Nittany Lions’ win.
“He said ‘I’m telling you, you’re going to take a kick return touchdown,”’ Barkley said. “My father was here for the game. When I got in the end zone, I looked back and he was standing there like ‘I told you!’”
Maybe, Barkley’s dad will be predicting a Heisman Trophy win next.
