Whenever Will Muschamp lands a commitment, the South Carolina coach drops a #SpursUp on Twitter. Come to SEC Country for the latest news, notes and observations in South Carolina recruiting.

JUCO DE ‘not entertaining other schools’

Since the start of his sophomore season at Georgia Military College, South Carolina commitment Jabari Ellis has heard from Miami and Washington State.

“I’m not entertaining any other schools,” Ellis recently told SEC Country.

Not that it was ever going to be in doubt for the 3-star defensive tackle, who attended Lake Marion High School in Santee, S.C., before going on to junior college. Ellis tweeted about a month ago that he was 100 percent firm with his decision to join the Gamecocks.

Rated by the 247Sports composite as the No. 26 overall JUCO prospect in the Class of 2018, Ellis is also listed as the No. 8 defensive tackle.

Fellow South Carolina commitments, cornerback Marlon Character Jr. (9) and wide receiver Ronnie Jamison (29), are also ranked among the top JUCO prospects in the country.

Because of his schedule at GMC, Ellis won’t be able to visit South Carolina anytime soon, but he is set to take his official visit on the weekend of Dec. 9.

Coachspeak: Dax Hollifield

Earlier this week, Phil Kornblut caught up with Shelby High School coach Lance Ware for an update on Dax Hollifield, who’s been to games this season at Florida State — officially — and unofficially to South Carolina and Virginia Tech.

“He’s enjoyed everywhere he’s been,” Ware said. “He’s going to have a tough decision. They are all good schools to choose from and he has built good relationships with all the coaches, including [South Carolina linebackers] coach [Coleman] Hutzler and coach [Will] Muschamp.

“He likes a big-time atmosphere and an opportunity to play early. He just needs to pick where he will be happy for four to five years.”

During an interview last month with SEC Country, Hollifield recapped his trip to South Carolina for the Kentucky game. And, of course, he’s set to return on Saturday.

North Carolina and Stanford are also in the mix.

“He has nothing but good things to say about all of them,” Ware said. “I think they are all doing their due diligence, all are recruiting him very hard and all feel like they are still in it.”
