South Carolina WR Terry Googer returns to Kyle Field to join team after hospital visit

South Carolina wide receiver Terry Googer appears to have avoided the worst-case scenario after a scary hit on Saturday night.

After a scene that included removing his facemask, shoulder pads and jersey before being taken off Kyle Field via stretcher on Saturday night, there is some positive news to report in the early going of his recovery.

In the latest update from College Station, South Carolina released word that Googer was rejoining his team after positive results at the hospital.

During the second quarter of the Gamecocks’ game with Texas A&M, SEC Network sideline reporter Cole Cubelic brought good word to viewers in the form of an update from South Carolina team doctor Jeff Guy, who went with Googer from the stadium to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in College Station, Texas.

“He is moving all of his extremities,” Cubelic said Guy reported. “He seems to be doing fine. He will stay and Scott & White Hospital for further evaluation.”

Will Muschamp also weighed in during halftime on the SEC Network.

“He took a pretty good shot,” Muschamp said of Googer. “He’s going to be fine.”

The Gamecocks wide receiver went down during the first quarter of a game against Texas A&M at Kyle Field on Saturday night.

He was without movement as emergency response personnel cut off his facemask, shoulder pads and helmet in a scene that was so scary that the SEC Network chose to send the broadcast back to the studio while Googer was being helped onto a stretcher.

“He did move, he gave a little bit of a wave once he was in that cart,” SEC Network host Dari Nowkhah said as they took the coverage back to the field.

Googer gave the crowd a thumbs up prior to being carted off the field.

Cubelic reported that Googer is being transported six miles to a hospital in College Station.

“Will Muschamp did not leave his side,” Cubelic said. “There was a lot of concern on his face.”

Thankfully, the early signs are that Googer has dodged a life-altering injury.
