Welcome to the Friday edition of our Oklahoma DieHards morning roundup, where we take you through all the biggest headlines around Oklahoma athletics.

Lofty comparison

ESPN recruiting analyst Tom Luginbill found comparisons for some of the top quarterbacks in the 2018 recruiting class. He compared 5-star Oklahoma commit Spencer Rattler to Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois.

Francois excelled as a freshman for Florida State, throwing for 3,350 yards and 20 touchdowns while leading the Seminoles to a 10-3 record. Luginbill believes that Rattler has the same kind of effortless release as Francois, but with better running ability. That would be a huge win for the Sooners if he turns into that kind of dual-threat player.

Other headlines:

  • Oklahoma linebacker Kenneth Murray was thrust into the role of middle linebacker after injuries last season. However, DieHards reporter John Shinn talked to Murray about why that could be his long-term best fit on the defense.
  • Elite 2019 tight end Austin Stogner committed to Oklahoma a while ago. He will take his official visit at the 2018 Oklahoma spring game, he told DieHards on Thursday. It’s his only planned visit at any school.

NBA prospects

Oklahoma point guard Trae Young will enter the 2018 NBA Draft and hire an agent. CBS Sports’ Reid Forgrave projects Young to go No. 11 to the Los Angeles Clippers in his first mid-NCAA Tournament mock draft.

Forgrave believes the Clippers are in desperate need of a legitimate star after trading former Oklahoma great Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons. Young surely provides the highest chance of an immediate superstar at the NBA level.

Other headlines:

  • Conference play begins for No. 3 Oklahoma softball as the Sooners host Texas Tech for a 3-game series over the weekend at Marita Hynes Field in Norman, Okla. The Sooners play at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
  • Oklahoma baseball also begins its quest for a Big 12 championship this weekend. The Sooners play West Virginia at 6 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman, Okla.
  • Former Oklahoma greats Buddy Hield and Griffin were named the best college basketball players to play for their current NBA teams by CBS Sports’ Chris Barnewell.
