TCU and Ohio State are slated to play each other during the 2018 season, but college football fans may be in for an unexpected treat this bowl season.
Sports Illustrated projected TCU to face Ohio State in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic in its latest bowl game projections on Tuesday.
The Cotton Bowl Classic is scheduled to be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Dec. 29 – part of the New Year’s Six bowl game lineup. The game is one of the bowls in the rotation for the College Football Playoff semifinals, though it will not host a playoff game again until the end of the 2018 season.
If the matchup between the Horned Frogs and Buckeyes materializes, it would be a little ironic, to say the least. TCU is already scheduled to face Ohio State on Sept. 15, 2018 in a highly-anticipated neutral-site game.
And the location: naturally, AT&T Stadium.
TCU and Ohio State were originally scheduled to play a home-and-home series in Fort Worth and Columbus before it was replaced with a single game. A bowl game would restore a pair of matchups between the two programs, even if not by design.
Ohio State has not played in the Cotton Bowl since January 1987. TCU, on the other hand, is riding nearly a 60-year drought, having not played in the bowl game since January 1959.
It’s guaranteed that we’ll see at least one TCU-Ohio State game in Arlington within the next 365 days. All that remains in question now is the waiting time.
