Stanford-Arizona State: Game time, TV channel, how to watch online for Week 5 game (Sept. 30, 2017)

As the Stanford Cardinal are fresh off a rout of the UCLA Bruins, Bryce Love and Co. look to re-enter the Pac-12 title conversation by defeating an Arizona State Sun Devils squad that is coming off a marquee win over Oregon just a week ago.

Despite two losses, the Cardinal still have just one Pac-12 loss to its name to USC in Week 2. With Love’s emergence into the Heisman conversation, Stanford seems to be trending upward after its 10-straight win over UCLA.

Stanford-Arizona State keys to the game for the Cardinal:

Get Bryce Love going early

Arizona State ranks ninth in rush defense in the Pac-12, giving up 155 yards per game on the ground. Only Stanford — ironically — Oregon State and UCLA have worse marks in the league. And nobody in the conference has a Bryce Love. The Heisman candidate’s contributions early against the Bruins in Week 4 helped the Cardinal maintain ball control and the overall tempo of the game. The Sun Devils give up plenty of points (37 per game) so ball control will be vital.

Force Manny Wilkins into bad decisions

Even in the Sun Devils’ win against Oregon, Arizona State averaged just 2.7 yards per carry. The Sun Devils moved the ball primarily through the air, with quarterback Manny Wilkins producing an efficient 24-of-39 passing night with 347 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions.

Stanford has gotten 10 sacks through four games, although the Sun Devils have allowed the most sacks (19) in the Pac-12. If the Cardinal frontline can pressure Wilkins, that’ll create opportunities either through three-and-outs or turnovers for Stanford to gain control.
