KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee basketball players were back on campus, returning to classes and getting on with life on Monday.
No one is more aware of the opportunity missed out on then the SEC co-champion Vols, who fell to No. 11-seed Loyola Chicago 63-62 on Saturday in Dallas.
The NCAA Tournament South Regional is completely up for grabs, and had Tennessee taken care of business, it would have been the favorite to reach the Final Four.
Nevada’s shocking upset of Cincinnati meant the Vols would have been facing a No .7 seed in the Sweet 16 in Atlanta. A win there would have put Tennessee up against the winner of the game between No. 5 seed Kentucky and No. 9 seed Kansas State.
“It’s gonna take a while to get over this loss and how it ended,” Vols sophomore Jordan Bowden said. “We just have to come together and get back in the gym and get back to work to get back here next year.”
SEC Country beat writer Mike Griffith and WNML’s Josh Ward discuss Tennessee basketball’s crushing end in today’s podcast.
