Tennessee football recruiting: Vols S commit Brendon Harris opens recruitment

The second Class of 2018 Tennessee commit in two days has opened up his recruitment.

Safety Brendon Harris announced via Twitter Tuesday his recruitment is open to all schools.

This comes a day following wide receiver commit Jatavious Harris opening his recruitment. The 41-0 loss to Georgia in Neyland Stadium, and the uncertainty surrounding coach Butch Jones’ job securing likely influenced the decision.

Brendon Harris might just have some regrets about committing before his senior season began and wants to take a look around at other options. This would be a change of tune from him a few months ago, though.

“I like that I committed early,” Harris told SEC Country in August. “I don’t hear from too many schools anymore so I can just focus on my high school season. I still talk to the coaches and coach Jones and they still show me love.”

Harris remains committed, but him looking around at other schools makes him a candidate to flip his commitment to another school at any moment.

The Chattanooga, Tenn., native will receive looks from a lot of schools now. Clemson and Georgia might be the ones Tennessee fans should most fear.

Harris rates as a 4-star prospect and the No. 17 safety in the class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Harris makes up a secondary haul of Jaycee Horn, Trey Dean, Tanner Ingle and Brandon Cross. Horn and Dean rate as 4-star defensive backs as well and the trio formed one of the best secondary classes in the SEC.

The Vols still hold commitments from 23 prospects in the Class of 2018, but two solidly committed prospects have started talking to other schools.

Offensive tackle commit and 5-star prospect Cade Mays is rumored to have opened his recruitment as well. He has taken all Tennessee references out of his bio on Twitter.

The Vols have had a very quiet time on the recruiting trail over the past few weeks, but that seems to be changing in a hurry.
