KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee basketball got a much-needed win over Florida on Wednesday night, but the Vols still have their issues.
Coach Rick Barnes said as much after the No. 19-ranked Tennessee program reached the 20-win plateau for the first time since Cuonzo Martin’s Sweet 16 team four years ago.
The Vols improved to 20-7 and 10-5 in the SEC, in sole possession of second place in the league, two games ahead of the teams tied for third place.
Tennessee needs one win in its final three games to clinch a first-round bye in the SEC Tournament.
The Vols currently have the No. 13 RPI ranking according to NCAAsports.com with remaining games against Ole Miss (106 RPI), Mississippi State (63 RPI) and Georgia (66 rpi).
SEC Country’s Mike Griffith and WNML’s Josh Ward discuss where Tennessee basketball is at and what needs to happen for the Vols to close strong.
Barnes has pointed to guard play in the backcourt, although it appeared one player took a step forward against the Gators.
Bigger teams with dominant post play have created problems for Tennessee in the past, particularly when Grant Williams runs into foul trouble.
