Thomas Welsh nominated for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award

Thomas Welsh can add the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award to his list of nominations for this season.

UCLA’s talented center is one of 10 finalists for  the award, which honors the best center in the college basketball. He is the only Pac-12 player named as a finalist.

The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame picks the winner. The award is named after Abdul-Jabbar, a UCLA alum, and was established in 2015.

Wisconsin’s Frank Kaminsky was the inaugural winner, followed by Utah’s Jakob Poeltl and Gonzaga’s Przemek Karnowski.

Welsh, a senior, is averaging 12.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game this season. The Bruins have won four straight games and are 17-7 overall and 8-4 in conference, which places them second in the Pac-12.
