The Pac-12 exited the NCAA Tournament expeditious fashion. Arizona, Arizona State and UCLA were all bounced out in 1 game. USC believes they would have had a different out if invited.
Trojans sophomore guard Jonah Mathews went as far as to say that the team would still be dancing.
“I feel like we could be in the Sweet 16 right now,” Mathews said, per Joey Kaufman of the Orange County Register.
It’s apparent that USC is frustrated after what they feel was an NCAA Tournament snub. But it’s easy to talk from the sidelines. USC didn’t fair well against NCAA Tournament-caliber teams this year. The Trojans left no evidence throughout the season that they are capable of reaching the Sweet 16.
The Pac-12’s abysmal performance didn’t help USC’s case. According to ESPN, the Pac-12 is the fifth conference to go 0-3 or worse in the NCAA Tournament since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1985.
Look on the bright side USC. Yes, the you are playing in the anticlimactic NIT but Arizona, Arizona State and UCLA aren’t playing anymore.
