A 30-point first quarter set the tone for a runaway victory for Utah on Monday, the Utes rolling to a 95-71 home win over LSU in the second round of the NIT.
The second-seeded Utes (21-11) registered a season high in points thanks to 14 three-pointers, the most since an overtime win at Arizona State in January. Senior guard Justin Bibbins was 4 of 7 from deep in scoring 16 points while senior guard Gabe Bealer (13 points) and junior guard Sedrick Barefield (17 points) each drained 3 triples.
Senior forwards David Collette and Tyler Rawson added 12 apiece for Utah, which shot 57.9 percent overall and held No. 3 LSU to 44.1 percent from the field.
Utah advances to the NIT quarterfinals for the first time since 1992 when it took third place. The Utes will either host Washington or visit Saint Mary’s on Wednesday.
