LSU football is in the news every day, and the Bayou Bengal Briefing is here to keep you updated with the latest headlines five mornings a week. Join us every Monday through Friday for the biggest news on Tigers football, recruiting, baseball and more. Enjoy!

Who should it be now?

In his daily Question of the Day column, SEC Country’s Alex Hickey wrote about LSU football’s search for the next player who’ll wear No. 18. Hickey advocated for senior tight end Foster Moreau, arguing that Moreau is a studious leader and a veteran presence on an otherwise young offense.

Naturally, some people disagreed. Moreau doesn’t play a flashy position like past 18s Matt Mauck and Jacob Hester and likely won’t be a first-round draft pick like Tre’Davious White. Nor is he expected to be the best player on a team with stars such as Devin White and Greedy Williams.

Of course, White and Williams have expressed interest in keeping No. 40 and No. 29, respectively, feeling more comfortable in their uniforms of choice than the ones bestowed upon them. As for the other seniors on the team, guard Garrett Brumfield can’t wear No. 18 because of his position and defensive backs John Battle and Ed Paris aren’t guaranteed starters because of the depth and talent at safety.

SEC Country’s Sam Spiegelman met with three of LSU football’s most notable recruits for the Class of 2019 on Wednesday: Kardell Thomas, Noah Cain and Tyrion Davis. He handed the camera over to the three high school stars and let them talk, capturing their banter and chronicling three players in different phases of the recruitment process.

Thomas has shut down his recruitment, pledged to LSU for good. Davis is committed but still open. Cain is uncommitted. Watch the video below to see their interplay and maybe catch a glimpse into the future of the program.

LSU football in NFL draft

The folks at Pro Football Focus released their list of the top 100 prospects in the 2018 NFL Draft recently, on which four former LSU football players appeared. PFF is higher on edge rusher Arden Key than virtually every other outlet and surprisingly low on wide receiver DJ Chark, keeping him out of its top 100 entirely.

Here’s where PFF has former Tigers slotted:

  • No. 12: EDGE Arden Key
  • No. 33: CB Donte Jackson
  • No. 49: RB Derrius Guice
  • No. 62: G/C Will Clapp

In case you missed anything, here’s a smattering of the biggest LSU news from Wednesday:

In Derrius Guice news

In the Bayou Bengal Briefing on Monday, we broke down Guice’s love of streaming video games online. Wednesday, he solidified that love.

That’s a lot of streaming gear. He’s finally making the conversion over from console to desktop, and he has the primo stuff, too. If you watch Guice on Twitch, you’re going to feel like you’re watching a professional streamer.

It’s a good thing Guice is about to have a lot more income headed his way. Because these are some expensive tastes.

In LSU baseball news

LSU baseball ended a four-game losing streak to Tulane on Wednesday, beating the Green Wave 10-4. Outfielder Zach Watson continued his torrid streak, going 3 for 3 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Over his last four games, Watson has hit safely in 11 of his 17 at-bats, good for a batting average of .647.

The Tigers will return to action this weekend in Nashville, Tenn., against Vanderbilt for a three-game SEC series. All three games will be televised on either ESPNU or ESPN2.

Today in made-up holidays

According to the folks at, March 22 is National Goof Off Day. So, be goofy. Or if you’re feeling especially adventurous, be Extremely Goofy.
