Washington-Oregon State keys to the game
Pedal to the metal
The Huskies are again one of the nation’s best teams, and while this matchup seems like a cakewalk for them, they can’t take it easy on the road in Corvallis, which has been the home of nightmarish days (and nights) for other heavily favored Pac-12 teams of years gone by. Washington needs to turn to the run game early and often to churn up plenty of yards against one of the nation’s worst teams against the run, and let the offense flow from there.
Prepare for anything
Oregon State quarterback Jake Luton suffered a thoracic spine fracture in the Beavers’ last game, and is out for the game. The Huskies’ defense — one of the conference’s best units — needs to be prepared for anything at the position. Film study only goes so far against a player who might not have played prior to this week. If Washington sticks to what makes it successful, this shouldn’t be an issue.
The Huskies went into a tough environment in Boulder, Colo., last week and came out with a substantial victory over a difficult opponent in Colorado. Oregon State isn’t the same caliber, but shouldn’t be overlooked as conference play ramps up. The Huskies have everything they need to make another run at a conference title and College Football Playoff, but can only get there if they take care of business against lesser opponents. That continues this week against the Beavers.
