Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts is strong. Like, really strong.
In a video recently posted to Twitter by Alabama strength coach Scott Cochran, the Crimson Tide star showed he’s not your average quarterback when it comes to the weight room.
With 600 pounds on the bar, Cochran screaming in his ear and a room full of teammates cheering him on, Hurts completed a squat that few quarterbacks would dare even attempt. You’re going to want to check this out:

At 218 pounds ( according to the official Alabama football website), Hurts is squatting nearly three times his body weight.
To put that into proper perspective, that’s a good 100 pounds more than many offensive or defensive lineman max out at on the squat. And those guys are much bigger than Hurts.
For Hurts, his display of strength is just one case for his continued play in the midst of a heated quarterback competition with sophomore Tua Tagovailoa. Entering his junior season with the Crimson Tide, Hurts finds himself fighting for the right to stay on the field in spite of leading the Crimson Tide to back-to-back national title game appearances during his first two seasons on campus.
While the battle between Hurts and Tagovailoa is practically all Crimson Tide fans will want to talk about during spring practice, Alabama coach Nick Saban already has grown weary of it.
“Both of those guys have been great,” Saban said, per SEC Country’s Christopher Walsh. “I know every time I stand up here you guys are going to make something out of it that it isn’t. It’s two good players. Both can contribute to our team and we’re going to give them an opportunity to do that. They’ve been great with each other, they’ve been great for each other, they’ve both shown leadership for our team. They’re both important to our team.
“I don’t really have anything to say. I know y’all want us to make something out that really isn’t there so you can make a big deal out of this. It’s competition just like at every other position.”
Quarterback battle aside, Hurts is really winning the offseason when it comes to viral videos. Earlier in March, the Alabama quarterback paid off an Iron Bowl bet with Auburn star Charles Barkley in epic fashion.
