Bruce Pearl was feeling pretty good on Wednesday night. And rightfully so — his Tigers crushed in-state rival Alabama by a convincing 90-71 score, cementing the program as the state’s best on the night that Gus Malzahn’s football team shared the stage to celebrate an Iron Bowl victory over the Crimson Tide from last fall.
In the moments following the victory on Auburn’s home floor, Pearl shared an intimate moment of celebration with Tigers football coach Gus Malzahn.
The two embraced on the court, sharing celebratory and congratulatory pleasantries. And the Pearl did it. He had his Malzahn moment.
“We beat their ass, Coach!,” Pearl exclaimed. “We didn’t just beat them, we beat their ass!”
Malzahn, who was all smiles, offered words of encouragement.
“I’m happy for you, man,” Malzahn told Pearl. “That’s awesome.”

For superstitious Auburn fans out there, this video may not be a welcomed revelation in spite of the joyous victory.
It is eerily similar to the video of Malzahn, which was captured by SEC Country’s Lauren Shute, telling Auburn supporters that the Tigers “whipped the dog crap” out of Georgia as he left the postgame scrum on the middle of the field at Jordan-Hare Stadium last fall.

We all know how the rematch between Georgia and Auburn turned out during the SEC Championship Game later in the season. Let’s hope it’s not a repeat performance for Auburn should the Tigers be faced with a major game against Avery Johnson’s Crimson Tide later in the hoops season.
