Former Purdue coach Joe Tiller, the winningest coach in Boilermaker history, passed away at the age of 74 on Saturday.
Over the past 24 hours, several coaches and former players who spent time with Tiller have shared their thoughts on a man who was not just excellent at his job but made a profound impact on those he worked with. Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin was one of those people, and following his Aggies’ win over South Carolina on Saturday, he shared his thoughts on his former boss:

Sumlin, who played for Purdue in the mid-80s, caught on with Tiller early in his coaching career, working for him at Washington State, Wyoming, and eventually, back at Purdue. All told, he and Tiller worked for nearly a decade with one another.
