It had been an uncomfortably tight game for the Oregon Ducks against Cal on Saturday night, a one-score game at Autzen Stadium with less than a quarter to play. And then Kani Benoit, known primarily as the backup to record-breaking running back Royce Freeman, struck, rumbling 68 yards for a touchdown to put the Ducks up 31-17.

Benoit has had a mercurial year. In a Week 4 loss to Arizona State, Benoit took just one carry for -1 yards. The week before that, he scored a pair of touchdowns, upping his total to 6 on the year. After his 68-yard burst against Cal, Benoit had 138 yards on 18 carries.
