WATCH: Texas Tech coach Chris Beard loves listening to AM radio

Texas Tech-Chris Beard-AM Radio-Texas Tech Red Raiders-Texas Tech Basketball

It appears that Whataburger isn’t the only non-basketball related topic that fuels Texas Tech men’s basketball coach Chris Beard.

Beard, in a media session ahead of the Red Raiders’ Sweet Sixteen matchup with Purdue, went on a tangent about his love for AM radio when asked about the travel experience for his team to Boston, Mass.

While answering the reporter’s question, Beard said he was “glad he wasn’t driving a 15-person van that doesn’t have a heater, has a gas leak, and only an AM radio.” In a matter of seconds, Beard found himself elaborating on his fascination with the content he has heard over the airwaves.

“AM radio is great, you know. It teaches you kind of a history. Great talk radio on AM radio. That’s what I’m going to do with my daughters today — I’m going to teach them about AM radio.”

Fox Sports Southwest has all of the remarks from Beard captured on video.

Being on the east coast, Beard won’t be able to do so while enjoying some food from Texas’ favorite fast-food hamburger joint. But that’s the itinerary during his free time ahead of the Sweet Sixteen showdown Friday night.

Beard, in his second season with the team, has the Red Raiders just a win away from their first Elite Eight appearance in program history. Texas Tech is one of four teams still alive in from the Big 12, with Kansas State already having punched its ticket to the Elite Eight on Thursday with a win over Kentucky.
