West Virginia on College Gameday, by the numbers

The West Virginia Mountaineers don’t have a great record when they go on College Gameday.

To make matters worse, TCU is undefeated when College Gameday attends their game.

The Mountaineers’ first Gameday appearance was at home against LSU in 2011. LSU stomped West Virginia, and went on to be arguably one of the best teams that never won a national title.

West Virginia’s second appearance was a lot happier for the Mountaineers — they stomped the Clemson Tigers 70-33 in what became one of the biggest BCS bowl game blowouts of all time.

The third appearance was against TCU at home, and the Mountaineers lost by one point.

After Saturday, half of West Virginia’s College Gameday appearances will have been against TCU.

The Mountaineers are currently 1-2 in College Gameday appearances. In addition, this will be the first time West Virginia has a true road game for College Gameday. They’ve lost every home College Gameday appearance they’ve had.

West Virginia is going to need to play a fantastic game in order to beat TCU on the road. The Horned Frogs have an incredible defense, and Kenny Hill is looking extremely efficient. TCU is going to be a tough out, but with a strong running game, West Virginia can absolutely be competitive.
