AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn was facing what was expected to be a big test in the form of No. 24 Mississippi State on Saturday night in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Yet the Tigers proved they were more than ready to navigate the rest of SEC play in their conference opener. A week after dismantling Missouri in Columbia, Auburn overwhelmed a talented Bulldogs team 49-10 on the Plains.
Kevin Steele’s defense dominated as it had through the first four weeks of the season against another quality opponent. Quarterback Nick Fitzgerald and the rest of Dan Mullen’s team fought to stay in the game, but couldn’t match all of Auburn’s punches.
Offensively Auburn looked perhaps its most comfortable. Quarterback Jarrett Stidham delivered a nice mix of passes to his wideouts and Kerryon Johnson led a beat up rushing attack.
