What Bill Self said after Kansas locks up Big 12 title with win at Texas Tech

With Saturday’s thrilling 74-72 win over Texas Tech, the Kansas Jayhawks are guaranteed at least a share of the 2017-18 Big 12 title.

That makes it 14 straight conference crowns for Kansas.

Devonte’ Graham was brilliant with 26 points, while Svi Mykhailiuk added 21 for the Jayhawks.

Here’s what Bill Self had to say after the game:

On winning the Big 12 title

“I don’t know. When we won when Mario and those cats were freshmen, I thought there was no way then…but we’ve had issues this year. We’ve been hot and cold. But there’s one thing about this group; they think they’re good.”

On how the game went offensively

“We couldn’t have shot the ball much better in the first half. But we didn’t do as well in the second half and we went to a crappy 2-3 zone to finish the game. The game was unbelievable. We played well, they played well.”

On Devonte’ Graham’s play

“Devonte’ Graham won Big 12 Player of the Year today. There’s no question about it…he’s earned it. When you do things the right way…you deserve some good things to happen. He has to talk to everybody, he has to coach everybody. He has to be our best perimeter defender, and he has to play 40 minutes every game.”

On Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard

On the Jayhawks’ next game against Texas

“We need to send our seniors off the right way. We need to have a Senior Night.”
