What does Sister Jean think of a possible Kentucky vs. Loyola-Chicago matchup? ‘I’ll have to scout them first’

ATLANTA — Sister Jean and the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers have advanced to the Elite Eight with a win against Nevada on Thursday night, and America’s favorite 98-year-old nun was asked about a potential matchup with Kentucky in the Elite Eight.

In the shine of the national spotlight, she wasn’t ready to give an uninformed opinion.

“I’ll have to scout them first,” Sister Jean said. “I wish I could stay for this game but so far I’ve had a long day and I don’t think I can stay. They were for us when we were playing because all those blue shirts came over and had pictures with me. So they better be for us.”

Kentucky has to get past Kansas State first before a matchup with Loyola-Chicago. Kentucky took the floor in Atlanta just as Loyola-Chicago left it.

As the Ramblers entered the locker room, many were waiting to talk to Sister Jean.

“I’m trying to keep myself calm, but I know that I’m not,” she said. “One of the things (Clayton) Custer said to me as he came off the court was, ‘Sister Jean, we broke your bracket.’ I said, ‘I don’t care how far you break my bracket. As long as you’ve broken it, you have to go a little more now.’ I’m happy for us, for my community, for Loyola, for the city of Chicago, and the world.”
